Sample Abstract

Author Log-In

The V.M. Goldschmidt 2012 Conference will focus on Earth in Evolution. The Scientific Committee has identified twenty-three exciting themes ranging from the Evolution of the Solar System to Geomicrobiology, and from Earth Resources to Geoengineering & Remediation. A total of 168 sessions are being hosted or co-hosted within the 23 themes.

Abstract submission to Goldschmidt 2012 begins on December 1, 2011, and ends on February 1,  2012 at 23:59 EST (extended to Feb. 3). Abstracts will only be considered for inclusion in the 2012 V.M. Goldschmidt science program if full abstract submission fees are paid. Submission of an abstract implies that the authors are committed to attending the meeting and presenting the work.

All submitted abstracts will be reviewed by the Goldschmidt 2012 Scientific Committee and convenors of the sessions to which they are submitted. Authors will be notified of acceptance and assignment (session, oral/poster) by March 10, 2012. Accepted abstracts will only be published if the first (presenting) author registers and pays the registration fees by the early registration deadline (April 20, 2012).

Submission

Delegates are invited to submit one abstract for an oral or poster presentation, using the official Goldschmidt 2012 Abstract Template. Authors must follow the formatting guidelines as listed below (see Format) and as shown in the template and the sample abstract. A submission fee of $100 CAD is required.

Submissions are accepted via the online form only. With your name and password, you may upload your abstract, save your work and return to edit it later.

Plenary and keynote speakers will be allowed to submit a second abstract. The abstract will have to be submitted to Alfonso Mucci ( ) or John Kotchan ( ) directly as the software will not accept two abstracts from the same first author.

Confirmation

An email confirmation will be sent upon creation of your online account to the email address you provided, specifying your login details for abstract submission and editing. If you do not receive notification of your account creation, please follow up immediately with the Conference Secretariat – JPdL at .

Format

Your abstract must be submitted using the official Goldschmidt 2012 Abstract Template. Authors must follow the formatting guidelines shown below. See also the sample abstract.

TITLE:

Enter abstract title in sentence case (with a capital letter on the 1st word and any proper nouns only).

ABSTRACT:
  • Abstracts must be uploaded as DOC (MS Word) or PDF (Adobe Acrobat) files, using the Goldschmidt 2012 Abstract Template.
  • Title and all author names must appear on the uploaded abstract file as well as be entered into the online form.
  • Do not skip lines between paragraphs.
  • Pictures, graphs or tables may be included.
  • Maximum length: 1 column.
  • Proofread carefully before submitting the abstract.
AUTHORS:

All authors included in the uploaded abstract file must also be entered separately into the online abstract form, for publication in the author index of the final program and USB abstract book. (See instructions on template for identifying presenter and other authors on the uploaded file.)

Be sure to fill all author fields for each author: Name, Institution, City, and Country. Information on authors will be published exactly as you enter it.

If the presenting author is a plenary or keynote speaker, a short biography is requested (300 words). For all other abstract submissions, the biography is optional. A picture of the presenting author may also be uploaded on the form, after the abstract upload. (See ‘Image Upload’ screen of the online form.)

Themes

Please consult the complete list of Themes and Sessions. Note that many sessions are being co-hosted by several themes but, for logistical reasons, only appear under their primary assignment (single theme) when choosing the proper code for abstract submission.

Abstract Modifications

To modify, correct or withdraw an abstract you may return to your online account (see link and access key shown in Account Confirmation email, or click here). No changes will be possible after the submission deadline of February 1, 2012.

Review and Notification to Authors

All abstracts will be reviewed. You will be informed by email of the acceptance or rejection of your abstract by March 10, 2012. Only the person identified as the Submitter will receive notification, which will be sent to the email address provided upon submission.

Fees and Registration

An abstract submission fee of $100 CAD must be paid at time of upload. The abstract submission fee is non-refundable. After notice of acceptance has been sent, all presenters are also required to register and pay the Conference registration fee in order to be included in the program and to present on site. The Secretariat will send a special link to all speakers for their registration in February. Please wait for our email before registering. Registration and payment of registration fee by presenters of accepted abstracts must be completed no later than April 20, 2012.

Publication

Accepted abstracts will be published in the final program and USB book of abstracts, both of which will be distributed to registered participants on site. Submitters must agree to publication before submitting abstract (see ‘I authorize’ field when creating your account on the online form). After the close of the conference, all accepted abstracts will also be published in a journal.

Presentation

Oral presentations will be included within sessions of the official Conference program. Each presentation will be 12 minutes long, followed by a 3-minute question period.

Posters will be on display from noon till 7:00 PM on an assigned day, Monday through Thursday. Poster size will be confirmed at a later date.

This year, in addition to presenting their paper posters on the assigned day and time, all poster presenters will be invited to upload a .pdf version of their poster. The .pdf posters will be archived for presentation at the Palais des Congrès. Computer monitors will be placed throughout the Palais to allow delegates to search and view all posters presented during the Conference. Viewing of electronic posters will only be possible during the Conference. Instructions for preparation and upload of files will be provided separately, after notification of acceptance has been sent.
